The Indianapolis Colts have spent more than six years searching for a franchise quarterback since Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019.
Anthony Richardson arrived with that expectation, but few anticipated Daniel Jones becoming the solution instead.
Brought in as a backup on a modest one-year deal, Jones has exceeded every projection and emerged as one of the NFL’s most effective quarterbacks this season.
The organization recognizes what it has found.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Colts are already exploring a contract extension to keep Jones beyond 2025.
“I am told that the Colts want this to continue beyond this year and for sure have interest in bringing Daniel Jones back on a long-term deal after the 2025 season,” Rapoport said. “I know we are only halfway through but this is clear what they are doing with Daniel Jones as the quarterback has been remarkable.”

His transformation has been remarkable. Jones is completing 71 percent of his passes while averaging 8.5 yards per attempt through eight games.
He has thrown 13 touchdowns against just three interceptions, leading the Colts to the league’s best record and the top spot in the AFC playoff picture.
Jones spent six inconsistent seasons with the New York Giants before a brief stop with the Minnesota Vikings.
His career seemed stalled until this year.
Shane Steichen’s offensive system has unlocked the efficiency and explosiveness Jones struggled to sustain in New York.
The stability has benefited both sides, giving Indianapolis the reliable presence it lacked and Jones the structure he needed.
Signed to a $14 million contract with $13.15 million guaranteed, Jones can earn an additional $3.7 million through incentives.
His performance suggests those bonuses are well within reach.
The Colts appear ready to commit long-term, believing they have finally ended their quarterback search with an unexpected answer.
