The Tennessee Titans dismissed Brian Callahan after just six games into the 2025 season, ending a tenure that produced a 4-19 record.
The decision follows a disappointing start that intensified frustration among fans, analysts, and team leadership across the organization.
The optimism that accompanied Callahan’s hiring has largely disappeared, leaving Tennessee facing the challenge of finding another replacement head coach.
CBS analyst Jonathan Jones believes the move could backfire, and the Titans will be even worse.
“They are now going to go the next 11 games with an interim head coach. I’m waiting on confirmation, but the odds on favorite has been John ‘Bones’ Fassel, the special teams coordinator of the Tennessee Titans… that would make some sense. […] This actually could get worse for the Tennessee Titans’ offense, right? Because now your best offensive mind is no longer in the building, in Brian Callahan. It wasn’t working, but he’s now out of the building. So it could get worse,” Jones said.

Looking ahead to a permanent hire, Jones highlights potential candidates from within the organization and beyond.
Jones stresses one critical point: teams rarely give play-calling duties to a first-time head coach, meaning Tennessee is unlikely to repeat that experiment.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward, fresh off an NCAA career record of 156 touchdown passes at Miami, has struggled early with a 55 percent completion rate.
He has thrown for 1,101 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions through six games.
Mike Borgonzi and Chad Brinker now face the challenge of finding someone to guide the franchise back on track.
