New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson criticized the Los Angeles Rams during his introductory press conference.
The Pittsburgh Steelers fell just short of making it into the playoffs, but managed to get another winning record under head coach Mike Tomlin. With the team seemingly having their long-term answer at quarterback in Kenny Pickett, it is time for the team to build around him.
Ahead of the NFL Draft, the team acquired a wide receiver in Allen Robinson following a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. That, in turn, put the Steelers in a position where they don’t have to draft a wideout.
During his introductory press conference on Monday, Robinson took a shot at the Rams for how they utilized him in his lone season with the team. Specifically, Robinson said, “If you’re a fork, you don’t want to be used as a spoon the majority of the time.”
Allen Robinson critical of how Rams used him in 2022
After winning Super Bowl 56, the Rams bolstered their roster, looking to make a run at another Lombardi Trophy. Robinson joined the Rams as a free agent, signing a three-year, $46.5 million contract. He was one of their big offseason acquisitions, alongside former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner. But, the Rams’ year did not go as expected.
The Rams offense as a whole underperformed. Their offensive line was far cry from what they had in their Super Bowl-winning season in 2021. Not to mention that the team traded away Robert Woods and Odell Beckham Jr. hit free agency as he recovered from a torn ACL.
Robinson played in just 10 games this past season after suffering a foot injury mid-November. Even when healthy, he was targeted 52 times by the Rams. Robinson logged 33 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
The Steelers acquired Robinson and the No. 251 overall pick in exchange for No. 234 overall pick. Los Angeles will be paying $10.25 million of Robinson’s salary, with the Steelers paying the remaining $5 million.
Now, Robinson gets a chance to show what he can do on a new team. He easily slots into the Top 3 of Pittsburgh’s wide receiver depth chart alongside Diontae Johnson and George Pickens. Now, Steelers fans will wait and see how the offense progresses with Pickett having Robinson to target downfield and how offensive coordinator Matt Canada schemes up plays this season.
