Aaron Rodgers finally gives update on Packers-Jets trade talks

Aaron Rodgers has us in the palm of his hand, and there’s very little we can about it. As Packers and Jets trade talks rage on, Rodgers will make up his mind soon.

The Packers are done waiting on Aaron Rodgers, who took a small step back last season and looked (dare I say) mortal at times behind center. Still, for the New York Jets, a mortal Aaron Rodgers is a rather monumental step up from what they’re used to.

Rodgers has held the NFL landscape hostage all offseason. We covered his darkness retreat in detail, only for the 39-year-old to emerge and take another week-plus to make a decision on his future. Clarity was not gained.

After a meeting with the Jets brass, it appears Rodgers is closing in on a decision, one way or another. There are still a few hoops to jump through — namely contract issues and trade compensation — but beyond that, if Rodgers wants to play football it well be in New York.

NFL rumors: Aaron Rodgers drops hint that Packers-Jets trade is close

Packers president Mark Murphy made it clear on Friday night that Rodgers career in Green Bay is a thing of the past.

“Yeah. I mean, unless if things don’t work out the way we would want, yeah,” Murphy said. “He’s obviously a great player. Four-time MVP. But I think it’s trying to find what he wants and what we want, and hopefully, we can find a win-win situation.”

Murphy and Green Bay want to do right by Rodgers, who has played for the franchise for nearly two decades. Rodgers situation is not dissimilar to that of Brett Favre, who was traded away 15 years ago to — you guessed it — the New York Jets.

Rodgers took over for Favre, so he knows all too well how Jordan Love is feeling.
