American track legend Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recently opened up about her struggles with vision and emotions. The 26-year-old reigning world champion in women’s 400m recently indulged in a candid Q&A session with her fans, answering various questions about her life, including her expression after every win.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Makes Feelings Known on Her Dazed Look After Every Win
The official Instagram page of GQ Sports shared an excerpt from their interview with McLaughlin-Levrone on their Instagram page. During the interview, the Olympic champion hurdler indulged in an interactive Q&A session with her social media followers.
During the chat, McLaughlin-Levrone read a comment that wondered why she looked dazed and stunned every time she won a race. The reigning world champion cheekily replied:
“Well, that’s the thing, because some people say I have no emotion when I cross the line, and then other people say I look shocked. So I don’t know which one to believe. I think sometimes when I am, like, it’s because you envision a certain time in your head, and then when you see it pop up on the clock, it’s like, wow, we actually did that.”
In a conversation with Forbes last week, McLaughlin-Levrone praised the concept of the all-female ATHLOS meet. However, she pointed out her concerns, given that she hasn’t been paid her dues from the much-talked-about Grand Slam Track League.
McLaughlin-Levrone’s Performance This Season
The world record holder hurdler had proved her supremacy yet again at the 2024 Paris Olympics, when she broke the world record in women’s 400m hurdles for the sixth time to clinch the gold medal. She also contributed to the gold medal victory for Team USA in the women’s 4x400m relay final.
McLaughlin-Levrone decided to experiment more with the women’s 400m event this year. The 26-year-old sprinter also tried her luck at the women’s 100m hurdles with the Grand Slam Track League, although her attempt didn’t turn out to be successful.
Despite the setback, McLaughlin-Levrone continued to hone her skills in the women’s 400m. For the first time, she decided to compete in the women’s 400m at the World Championships instead of the women’s 400m hurdles. Her efforts paid off as she won the gold medal with a championship record of 47.78 seconds, just 0.18 seconds short of the four-decade-old world record established by Marita Koch in 1985.
The 26-year-old sprinter topped it off with a gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay final at the Tokyo World Championships.
