Fernandez’s last tournament of 2025 was the Hong Kong Open, where she was seeded second. She defeated Wang Xiyu, Eva Lys, and Sorana Cîrstea before falling to compatriot and the eventual champion, Victoria Mboko, in the semifinals, marking the end of her 2025 season.

After concluding her tennis season, Fernandez took a trip to Spain with her sister, where she spent time away from the sport to rest and recover after a demanding year.
Recently, the former World No. 13 took to social media to share a video describing her return to a training routine. She mentioned that it involves a continuous cycle of “watching tapes,” “social media,” “practice,” “fitness,” and “media,” repeating the process over and over again.
Despite the repetitive nature of her routine, she expressed that she wouldn’t have it any other way. “Wouldn’t have it any other way 🫶 ,” Fernandez captioned her Instagram post.
Fernandez finished the 2025 tennis season with two titles: the 2025 Citi DC Open and the Japan Women’s Open, where she defeated Anna Kalinskaya and Tereza Valentová in the finals, respectively. She also had a semifinal run at the 2025 Hong Kong Open, reaching the quarterfinals at the Abu Dhabi Open and the Nottingham Open.

After the conclusion of her 2025 tennis season, Fernandez took to social media to express her gratitude to everyone who contributed to her success on the court. She shared that she spent the year doing what she loves most: playing tennis.
The former world No. 13 revealed that she didn’t want the season to end. She celebrated winning the “biggest” title of her career, the Citi DC Open. She also thanked her fans for their support throughout the year.
“Another year doing what I love most, another year filled with sweat, laughter, pain, wins, losses, flights, new lessons, encounters and milestones… I actually didn’t want this season to end. Two WTA titles, and my biggest one yet, in Washington DC. And I love that I did it with all of you guys by my side. Thanks for your support all season long. I’m hungry for more, let’s keep going,” Fernandez said.
Additionally, Fernandez expressed her appreciation to her father, Jorge Fernandez, who is also her coach, as well as to all her team members for their continuous support.
“I can’t end the year without thanking my team – without you, any of that would be possible. My coaches Jorge, Abdul and Lauren, and my hitting partners, Federico and Jaume. With love, Leylah,” she added.
