The aftermath of a blockbuster trade rarely gets more uncomfortable than this. Jerry Jones sat before reporters Thursday night, trying to explain why he’d just shipped his defensive superstar to a division rival. But it wasn’t his reasoning that caught everyone’s attention – it was what he kept calling the player he’d just traded.
Why Does Jerry Jones Keep Calling Micah Parsons “Michael”?
Dallas Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones headed out on Thursday night, Aug. 28, and spoke to media members after trading All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Jones was seated next to his son, Cowboys executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones.
While Jones offered his numerous reasons and thoughts around trading Parsons, there was a little bit of a possible dig he was also getting over. To several people listening very carefully to Jones, it appears that he referred to Parsons as “Michael” a few times.
Of course, Parsons’ first name is Micah, not Michael.
For those who might not believe Jones would do this, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz posted a video clip on X of Jones doing this in the press conference.
Jerry Jones repeatedly calling Micah Parsons, “Michael,” is just insane.
“There was no question in our mind that MICHAEL could bring us a lot of resources in a trade.” 🤦🏻♂️ https://t.co/qQuPZflOq7 pic.twitter.com/pkfa861LJF

As if Schultz’s video evidence was not enough, RJ Ochoa, Editor-In-Chief of “Blogging The Boys,” also posted his thoughts about Jones doing this on X. Ochoa wrote, “Jerry Jones just referred to Micah Parsons as Michael again. Be an adult. For once.”

The name mistakes kept piling up throughout the press conference. Even “Locked on Cowboys” host Marcus Mosher was keeping track of Jones dropping Parsons’ first name wrong to the media. Mosher posted on X, “We are up to three “Michael” Parsons name drops.”

While he was watching Jones talk about the deal, former ESPN sports broadcaster Trey Wingo could not hold back his thoughts. Wingo posted on X, “Just an utter embarrassment”.
How Did Cowboys Fans React to Jerry Jones’ Name Mix-Up?
The fan reaction was swift and brutal. One fan wrote, “Jerry Jones calls him “Michael Parson” again in his live interview. This guy doesn’t live in reality anymore haha @dallascowboys”. This fan had a simple four-word statement to share and wrote, “I hate this man”.
Another fan must have been following that fan’s account because there was another four-word reaction. This fan posted on X, “He is an idiot”. One fan questioned Jones’ mental faculties on Thursday and wrote, “At this point he’s senile of an owner”.
The criticism extended beyond just the name issue. Also on X, the Lions Syndicate account observed what Jones was doing when talking about the trade. The account’s comments? “So now he’s getting a man’s name wrong…WOW!!!! straight disrespect”. This fan didn’t hold back in their comments and wrote, “Jerry a f**kin weirdo I’m glad Micah got out”.
One NFL fan found it hard to believe that Jones was the main decision maker for the Cowboys organization. The person wrote on X, “Aint no way this dude still makes player decisions for this team.” Finally, one fan’s three-word post might have summed up all the fans’ thoughts succinctly: “The disrespect bruh”.
While Jones and his son did their best to put on a good front about the deal, it’s hard to believe the press conference will silence critics. Also, with Parsons on defense against the Cowboys fan base, Packers fans have Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season circled on their calendars.
That’s when Green Bay travels to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, for a “Sunday Night Football” showdown against the Cowboys.
